PILCROW

Pilcrow makes Cabernet Sauvignon from three distinct Mountain sites throughout the Napa Valley which celebrate an old-school wine style made famous by legends like Nathan Fay, Lee Stewart, and Bob Travers. Wines that are high-toned, unadulterated, and celebrate character (and characters). Pilcrow is a love letter to the Napa Valley circa 1960.

Pilcrow was brought forth in 2014 with the first harvest from Mt. Veeder and it quickly became clear that the winery’s passion for craft was destined to be more than merely a wine. Pilcrow became a promise to the world to celebrate the humanity of craftsmanship. To treasure the past. To take things slowly. To be a little bit analog.

It is through Pilcrow that Sara and Jonah demonstrate their love of quiet wines that value grace and thoughtfulness and that amplify terroir. It is through Pilcrow that they ply the fine-wine ambition that drives the winery and makes the clear expression of terroir an absolute and an ideal. By looking for, caring for, and safeguarding the differentiating characteristics of each vineyard they stay alert, as vintners, to the exceptional possibilities of each wine.

  • Ghost Block

The Ghost Block vineyard is a unicorn of sorts, being a ‘mountain’ vineyard on the valley floor in Yountville. Generous. A bit plush. Hint of down-valley-coolness.

  • Granite Lake

Granite Lake does not just reside in the Howell Mountain AVA, it is on the ridgeline of the mountain itself. Red, iron-rich, low vigor soils. Lower pH. Good ballast.

  • Hillwalker

Hillwalker is a prototypical Mt. Veeder vineyard complete with south-facing slope and broken blue-shale soils. Classic fruit-floral complex. Violets. Chiseled.
