Finding True North
For thousands of years, since the time of the ancient Greeks, knowing the direction of true north has been critical to mankind's drive for exploration and discovery. It is in knowing the direction of true north that one finds the courage to move forward into the unknown and to stay true to one's direction of choice.
To find true north is to simply find the constellation Ursa Minor - the Little Bear - also known as the Little Dipper. The brightest star in that constellation is Polaris, found at the end of the bear's tail. This bright star marks the celestial pole and can be counted on to always mark true north.
Our "Little Bear" logo, found on the homepage, is taken from this celestial map of the northern hemisphere created by E.H. Burritt in 1835.
